Green Drinks – Ongoing!
On December 12th Hilltrip and AWARE launched a new monthly green initiative called Green Drinks (www.greendrinks.org), a gathering of anyone interested in 'green' at Blacks Pub from 8 to 10pm every 1st Wednesday of every month. The concept began in the UK in 1989 and now includes more than 300 cities over the world. These events are a chance to meet regularly to chat, debate, socialize and connect with others in Whistler who are passionate about environmental and sustainability issues. Backcountry Potluck, April 14th
On APril 14, Hilltrip and AWARE met on Whistler Mountain at noon. From there, we were planning on going into the backcountry and have a potluck but the weather was not nice so we did a peacful march with the banner at the Roundhouse restaurant.
On that day, people across North America were joining forces in over 800 cities to tell their governments that it’s time to take real action to combat climate change. Recently, Canada’s federal and provincial governments have started to speak the language of climate change by committing to long-term targets for reducing carbon emissions. Setting long-term targets is important, but none of the governments’ announcements will reduce emissions this year, the next or even the year after. We need laws and public policy that reduce emissions right now. It’s time to step it up.
