Enviro-Fest Fair 2008
Saturday, June 7th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Location: Mountain Square

The Resort Municipality of Whistler and Whistler Blackcomb are gearing up for the 7th Enviro-Fest Fair. To be held on Saturday, June 7 from 11 am to 4 pm in Mountain Square, the Fair is the place to learn about environmentally friendly choices offered in the community in a fun and interactive setting. This year's theme is sustainable energy and the event features over 30 exhibitors with live music and fun activities for kids.

Whistler Enviro-Fest Fair Schedule

The sustainable energy theme will be featured at a number of booths. Energy Alternatives will showcase its electrical power systems which harness energy primarily from sunshine, wind and flowing water in its off the grid traveling booth. Other sustainable energy exhibitors include Terasen Gas and the natural gas pipeline, as well as Western GeoPower Corp informing about the proposed South Meager Geothermal Project

For those looking to learn more about Whistler's natural environment, members of the Whistler Naturalists, AWARE, the Michael Allen Black Bear Project, Bear Aware, the Get Smart Bear Society, and the Whistler Fisheries Stewardship Group, as well as information from the RMOW Whister2020 sustainability department will all be in Mountain Square for the duration of the event.

Other exhibitors include BC Transit and the Hydrogen Bus Project, Whistler Community Services Society and the Re-Use-It Center, the Re-Build-It Centre (coming soon!) and the Community Greenhouses, plus many more.

New this year, Whistler will be doing a draw for a 12-month WaveCard for all those that ride transit or their bikes to Enviro-Fest. Participants will need to keep their bus transfer as proof that they rode the bus to the village that day and put it in the raffle box at the WAVE Transit table. For those that ride their bikes, people will need to show their bike or helmet to add their name to the draw.

Highlights of this year's entertainment include live music sets by DJ Bruno Be starting at 11:00 a.m. leading into a jam session with Papa Josh accompanied by Bruno and his didgeridoo at 1pm. Then at 2:00 p.m., DJ Phroh teams up with DJ Bruno Be for a tribal set. Everyone is welcome to bring drums, noise makers, and other props to raise the vibration in the entire village.

For those looking for fun activities to do, join the third annual Wild Things Scavenger Hunt featuring local Naturalist Cara Richard. Join Cara in Rebagliati Park at 10 am for a scavenger hunt suited to people of all ages, followed by a human size climate change board game and face painting with Peak to Party, using an airbrush powered by Energy Alternative's solar system.

All of these groups and more will be at Enviro-Fest, so come on outside, get some fresh air, and celebrate some good, green fun!
